Congo has large forest resources. The Congo Basin the second wooded whole world after the Amazon with about 204 million hectares. The forest occupies 60% of the area of Congo with 2 large logging areas:
- Southwest: Niari valley, Massif du Chaillu, Chains Mayombe (~ 10 million hectares)
- North: bowl Congolese and Western Sangha (~ 13 million hectares)
12 million hectares granted to logging. Until 1972, before oil, the timber industry was the main resource of Congo. New regulatory framework since 2000
